Sherabad

The city of Sherabad, which is the administrative center of the Sherabad district, is located in the Surkhandarya region, on the right bank of the river of the same name, a tributary of the Amu Darya, in the south of Uzbekistan. Sherabad lies 60 kilometers north of the city of Termez.

The Sherabad lands cover a significant part of the history of Central Asia since the Bronze Age (3 millennium - beginning of 1 millennium BC.) in the south of Uzbekistan three local centers of the Bronze Age were revealed. All of them were found on the banks of the Sherabad river, Bandykhan and Kyzylsu mountain rivers. Local centers of the Bronze Age are represented by the settlements of Jarkutan and Sapallitepa fortifications, which gave rise to ancient Bactria.

The city of Sherabad is still rich in historical sites. The city has the famous 9th century mazar of a Muslim theologian and author of several books on various aspects of Muslim dogma and the compiler of the Hadith collection “Sunan at-Tirmizi” - Abu Isa Muhammad at-Tirmizi.

In 1973 Sherabad received the status of the city. The city has a cotton-cleaning plant, an industrial combine and a plant for the production of ceramic products. Also in Sherabad cotton, brick, milk, flour products are produced. In Sherabad, children's music schools, lyceums, vocational colleges, stadiums, sports grounds are open. The decoration of the city is a recreation park.
