Mysterious Sights of legendary city

Oriental bazaar in Khiva

In Khiva now there are about ten major markets, each of which has its own historical period of formation. The oldest of them is the Palvan Darwaza bazaar of Khiva, and it is situated near Palvan Darwaza Gates; this is also the most significant one and it is located in the center of the city. In the middle ages there were other small markets that served functioning of the main bazaar.

Said Muhammad Mahir mausoleum

Said Muhammad Mahir mausoleum is located in Khiva and valued as a family tomb of Khiva khans. Saeed Muhammad Khan, Muhammad Rahim Khan II (Feruz) and his grandson Temur Gazi Tour were buried here. In mausoleum there are graves of the descendants of Khiva khans, their wives and children.

Airtam complex

Buddhist complex Airtam is situated in Khoresm region and dated back to the 4th century BC. The study of Buddhist monuments of Central Asia began from excavations in Airtam. And according to six Bactrian inscriptions King Kanishka had implemented large construction works of Buddhist temple in particular restored and decorated the complex.

Zoroastrian heritage of Khoresm

The history of the origin, development, establishment of Zoroastrianism is associated with the fact that Zoroastrianism was born in Central Asia at the turn of II-I BC. Sayid bai Minaret

Uch Avlioli mavsoleum

The name of Uch Avlioli mavsoleum means "mausoleum of three saints" and it is located in ancient city of Khiva. Place of construction that refers to the 18th century was the suburban cemetery existed until the 20th century. The current location of the mausoleum is the rear courtyard of the palace Tash Hawley.

Bibi Hajar Mausoleum

Located in the old city of Khiva, Bibi Hajar complex was built in 1846. It includes a mausoleum, winter mosque and cemetery. Pillar winter mosque there is a sign, which says that the building was erected during the epoch of Muhammad Rakhimkhan.

Dishan Kala

Matpanabay Madrasah

Madrasah is located north of the Juma Mosque in Khiva. This madrasa built by one of the richest merchants in 1905. Madrasah performed by major masters and Khiva Khudaybergen Haji Qalandar Kochum. Reservations were facing the front part of the east and the south side of the corridor is designed to enter the madrasah.

Rafanek Madrasah

This madasah was erected in 1853 in Khiva with the explicit intention to surpass all his predecessors on the throne in the wealth of architectural decoration.

Bazaar of old Khiva

Mamad Maram Madrasah

Shahimardan Mausoleum

This mausoleum of Khiva is located 500 meters west of Dishan-Kala. In the XVIII century mausoleum formed around the cemetery. People associate this place with the name of Hazrat Ali, son of prophet. In fact, the first were buried here Khorezmshakh brave warriors.

Mukhammad Rahim Khan madrasah

Hassan Murat Kushbegi mosque is located in the "inner city" (Ichan - Kala) of Khiva, behind the Musa Tour madrasah. It was built at the beginning of the XIX century (1802) by Murat Hassan khan together with his cousin Shah Niyaz.

Palvan Kari complex

Palvan Kari comlex is located in Khiva. It was built in 1905 by Khiva merchant Palvan Kari. The complex specialized in selling perfumes and fabrics from Russia - Astrakhan, Orenburg and Nizhny Novgorod. And in 1913 in Palvan Kari began selling sewing machines and repair them.

Sheikh Mukhtar Ata Mosque

In southern part of modern Khorezm region of Uzbekistan between the Karakum Desert and Kyzlkum, there is one of the most remarkable cities of Central Asia - Khiva. It is unique, the only fully preserved in the region, city monument.

Mazari Sharif Madrasah

This madrasah is located in Khiva and was erected by the order of Rahim Kuli Khan’s son in 1905. Entrance to madrasah is laid in the south wall through the dome gallery with a large archway courtyard. Every visitor is bewitched by the unique majolica and green glazed bricks that are the main decoration of the entrance portal.

Bagbanli Mosque

This mosque is located in ancient city of Khiva in Ichan-Kala. It was constructed in 1809 and has its own legend. After all, every devout Muslim, believes his sacred duty to build a house and keep God's work. One such legendary mosques mosque is Bagbanli. Inscription in verse on a stone plate at the entrance reads that the mosque was built in 1809 (1224 Hijra).

Yar Muhammad Devon Mosque

Yar Muhammad Devon Mosque was built in XYIII century in Khiva. It is located behind one of the oldest mausoleums Ichan Kala - Sheikh Said Allauddin. Its eastern borders lay near Abdurasulbay madrasah.

Yusuf Yasulbashi Madrasah

In ancient complex of Ichan-Kala in Khiva, west of the archaeological site of the mausoleum of the cult Pahlavan Mahmud Musa is located opposite the Yusuf Yasulbashi Madrasah. It is considered one of the most iconic landmarks of Ichan Kala (inner city). Madrasah was named in honor of Yusuf khan Yasulbashi.

Shirgazikhan madrasah

Muhammad Amin Madrasah

Muhammad Amin Madrasah was built in 1785 by the order of Mohammed Amin who was the first emir of Kungrat dynasty in Khiva. According to legend, in one of the rooms of the madrasah was burial Mohammed Amin or his younger son Qutlugh ball Murad Khan.

Sha Qalandar Bobo Complex

This complex was built in the XIX century in Khiva and comprises a traditional architecture of madrasah of that time. It is next to the burial of Sheikh Qalandar Bobo.

Abd Al Bobo complex

Abd Al Bobo Mausoleum is located in the eastern part of Dishan-Kala in Khiva and was built in the 18th century. The mausoleum was constructed in honor of Abd Al Bobo or Akhmad Palvon Zomchi. After the Arab invasion to Central Asia, Abd Al Bobo was one of the followers of Islam in Khiva.

Kutlug Murad complex

Depicting the events of the past Kutlug Murad complex was constructed by the order of Abulgazi Rahimhanom Mohammed in Khiva. It is a historical palace with a large dome that inactivated by Kutlug Murad khan in 1812.

Makhdoom Talib Madrasah

Madrasah was built on the order of scribe (Mirza) and close person Muhammad Khan of Khiva Rahimkhan II and his Vizier Islam Khoja Makhdoom Talib in 1910 on the territory adjacent to the north madrasah Islam Khoja.

Djuma Mosque

Djuma Mosque of Khiva was one of the most remarkable buildings of this city during the middle ages. It was constructed in XVII century and now this monument is referring to the most ancient mosques of Khorezm.

Said Niyaz complex

This structure was built by a rich merchant Said Niyaz in 1842. Now it is one of the popular tourist destinations of Khiva. The constructions of the mosque is linked a legend that the works of the mosque was running only one master, and the remaining was carried by children.

Said Muhammad Khan Madrasah

Said Muhammad Khan Madrasah is located in a picturesque place next to Sirchali Dishan-Kala complex in Khiva. It was erected after the death of Muhammad Khan of Khiva, by the order of his son Said Muhammad Rahim Khan II in memory of his father in 1864.

Atadjan complex

Khiva district includes part of the city and the nearby village. Here, as in other areas of Khiva located some incredible landmarks such as a significant architectural complex Atadjan. Mosque and madrassa Atadjan were built in 1893-1899 years by Atadjan, younger brother of Muhammad Said Rahimkhan II, who was temporarily declared Khan during the Russian siege of the city.

Kazi Kalyan Madrasah

Bikanzhan Bica complex

This building of public worship comprises madrasah, mosques and minarets formed on the ancient site near the mausoleum of revered people Shokalandar, one part of the complex. According to the historical data mausoleum was built in the 16th century in Khiva.

Pahlavan Mahmud madrasah and minaret

Alla Kuli Khan Caravanserai

In 1831, in the eastern part of Ichan-Kala was constructed a large market area by the order of Khiva’s Khan. Here was erected a shopping arcade selling grains, fruits, soaps, and candles. Here were also series of small trading houses and in the adjacent site thre was a place of the slave trade.

Arab Muhammad Khan Madrasah

Arab Muhammad Khan Madrasah endured two births, separated by centuries. First madrasah raised due to the transfer of the center of Khorezm Old Urgench to Khiva, appeared in Arab Muhammad Khan in 1611. From this frame building were carved with wooden columns and fragments composing ceilings that now presented in Museum of Applied Arts in Khiva.

Palace Tash Hawley

Palace Tash Hawley or "Stone courtyard" is located in the eastern part of the ancient Ichan Kala (inner fortress of Khiva). Nearby there is another ancient monument - the gates Palvan Darvaza.

Nurullabay palace was built in 1912 by order of Muhammad Rahimbay II. Construction of the palace lasted for almost 6 years. This architectural complex consists of several courtyards, lush gardens and councils, ceremonial and residential premises. Traditionally, the palace is surrounded by gigantic ramparts length of 650 meters with a protective semi-circular towers - gulbdasta.


Ak-Mosque was erected in command of Anoushkhan in 1684 in Tashkent. It is known as a small minaret that enriched with elaborate tracery and texts from the Koran located near Palvandarvaza gate.

Mausoleum of Sheikh Syed Alauddin

The oldest of the surviving architecture of Khiva is the mausoleum of Sheikh Syed Alauddin, referring to the 14th century.

Toprak-kala. The ancient capital of Khorezm
